Economic Structure enhancement and employment by the Twente Innovation Route
Europe must advance. In 2010, Europe is to have the most knowledge intensive economy in the world. This has been laid down in the 2000 Lisbon objective. Innovation is stated therein as an important means to increase European competitiveness.
In 2003, the Netherlands introduced the Innovation Platform and developed policies and instruments in order to meet this objective. Focal point therein is an area-oriented approach that includes programmes such as “Peaks in the Delta’ and ‘Key Areas’.
Since 2005, the Twente Innovation Platform has been actively engaged in producing sustainable economic structure enhancement as well as retention and creation of employment in the province of Twente. The objective of this approach – the Twente Innovation Route – is to retain and create more than 12,000 jobs in the long-term.
